The Nendran Banana, also known as the Chengalikodan Banana, is grown in the Thrissur area of Kerala and is prized for its sweetness, softness and beautiful shape. Its shape and colour set it apart from other bananas, with mature fruits that are pale yellow and develop a golden yellow hue with crimson patches. This exquisite banana is offered as Kazhchakula at the Guruvayoor temple during the Uthradam day of the harvest festival of Onam. This delectable delight has thus been awarded the coveted GI tag by the Government of India.
